Alaska announced new nonstop Seattle to Athens and Paris flights starting May 2027 on the 787-9. Here's what's coming, when, and why you should care.

Alaska Airlines announced nonstop service from Seattle to Athens and Paris starting May 2027. Both routes will operate on their 787-9 Dreamliner with lie-flat business class suites. Here's what's coming and why the growing Alaska international network is worth watching.

    The Route Details

    Here's the schedule:

Route Start Date Frequency Departure Arrival
    Seattle → Athens May 12, 2027 3x weekly 4:30 PM 2:20 PM (+1)
    Athens → Seattle May 13, 2027 3x weekly 4:20 PM 6:55 PM
    Seattle → Paris May 25, 2027 5x weekly 5:25 PM 12:25 PM (+1)
    Paris → Seattle May 26, 2027 5x weekly 2:25 PM 3:50 PM

Both routes run seasonally through October 2027. The Seattle-Athens route will be the longest Alaska’s ever flown, and Alaska will be the only airline offering nonstop service between the US West Coast and Athens.

    The Aircraft and Product

Both routes will operate on the 787-9 Dreamliner with Alaska's new long-haul international product. That includes lie-flat business class suites, multi-course dining from Alaska's west coast inspired food and beverage program, and premium amenities from local brands Filson and Salt & Stone. Complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi is also included for Atmos Rewards members as installation continues across the fleet through 2027.

    The Bigger Alaska International Picture

Alaska is now up to seven intercontinental destinations from Seattle:

    • Athens (May 2027)
    • Paris (May 2027)
    • Reykjavik
    • London
    • Rome
    • Seoul
    • Tokyo

Alaska’s CEO Ben Minicucci has noted plans for at least five more intercontinental destinations by 2030, with additional Dreamliners on the way. For context on how quickly this has moved, a few years ago Alaska's international footprint was essentially Mexico and Canada.

    My Take

It’s nice to see Alaska continuing to build out its long-haul network, and I'm hoping to fly one of these routes soon. As more 787-9 Dreamliners come online, we should see more announcements.

The angle I'm most excited about isn't actually the routes themselves - it's the award inventory. Alaska is a oneworld member, which means these routes should become bookable using AAdvantage miles, Qatar Privilege Club Avios, BA Avios, and other oneworld partner currencies once they're loaded into inventory. That's a new set of premium cabin redemption options for those looking to get to Europe. Alaska's own Atmos Rewards members obviously get first crack.

    Tickets are on sale now.
