Booking Hyatt Cash + Points: A Practical Guide

Hyatt's Cash + Points booking option is one of the more useful features of the program. You can split a night between currencies, mix award nights with paid nights in the same reservation, and sometimes game the pricing to your advantage. Here's how it works and when it makes sense.

World of Hyatt has a Cash + Points booking option that most members either don't know exists or don't use effectively. It sits right next to the standard rate and standard points redemption on the booking page, and delivers a lot of flexibility.

How Cash + Points Actually Works

Hyatt publishes a Cash + Points rate for each award category. The current chart looks like this:

Each Cash + Points rate is roughly half the points amount of a full award night within that category, plus a fixed cash portion on top.

How to Actually Book It

Search for your stay on hyatt.com or the Hyatt app as usual. On the results page, look for the toggle that lets you switch between paid rates and points rates. Make sure to have the toggle switched over to points.

Multi-night stays is where it gets interesting.

Pay My Way: Splitting Nights Between Payment Types

Here's something that's easy to forget. In the same reservation, you can book different nights on different redemption types. That means:

• Night 1: Standard cash rate
• Night 2: Points redemption
• Night 3: Cash + Points
• Night 4: Standard cash rate

Hyatt's booking system supports this natively, so no need to connect different reservations or jump through hoops.

The "hack": pay cash on the cheaper nights, use points on the more expensive nights. This can often occur during stays that overlap a weekend or holiday. The reverse works too. If a leisure property runs $200 on weeknights and $500 on weekends, you may save by using points on the weekend and pay cash on the weekdays.

The Verdict

Cash + Points isn't the right answer for every stay. When cash rates are reasonable and you're not stretched on points, it's often a middle-of-the-road option.

To me, Pay My Way is where the real value is. Combining booking currencies into a single reservation lets you extract maximum value from both cash and points during the same stay. Hyatt is one of the few loyalty programs that makes this easy to do without a call.
