Guide to American Airlines beverage service - what's free by cabin, exact Buy on Board pricing, and AA’s beverage gap.

A breakdown of American Airlines' onboard drink menu - what's complimentary, what's Buy on Board, current pricing, and one thing AA still hasn't done that competitors have.

American Airlines' onboard drink program is pretty straightforward. There aren't signature cocktails or elaborate mixology programs. What you get is a basic menu of soft drinks, coffee, tea, spirits, wine, and beer - with pricing and availability that depend on your cabin and the length of your flight.

Here's the full picture, based on AA's current beverage menu card.

Complimentary Beverages (All Cabins on Flights Over 250 Miles)

The following are free for all passengers on qualifying domestic flights:

    Hot drinks:

    • Lavazza Coffee (regular and decaf)
    • Hot tea
    • Creamer available

    Soft drinks:

    • Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Dr Pepper
    • Ginger ale
    • Q Mixers (soda water and tonic on select flights)

    Juices:

    • Orange juice, apple juice, cranberry cocktail
    • Tomato juice, Bloody Mary mix, Margarita mix

That's the complimentary menu everyone gets. Lavazza is one of the more recent additions, with AA offering a standard unbranded coffee as recently as last year.

    Buy on Board Alcoholic Beverages

For Main Cabin passengers on flights where Buy on Board applies (flights over 1,100 miles), here's what's available and it’s current summer 2026 pricing:

    Item Price
Clark Red Blend (187ml) $11 or 1,100 miles
Clark Pinot Grigio (187ml) $11 or 1,100 miles
Bottega Vino Spumante (187ml) $12 or 1,200 miles
Spirits (50ml) — vodka, gin, rum, tequila, bourbon, scotch $11 or 1,100 miles
Heineken and Goose IPA (355ml) $10 or 1,000 miles
Dos Equis and Bud Light (355ml) $9 or 900 miles
Athletic Brewing Co. Non-Alcoholic Hazy IPA (355ml) $5 or 500 miles

The spirits list is what generates the "no signature cocktails" observation. AA will sell you the spirit, give you a free mixer, then lets you build what you want.

The miles pricing is worth noting. At AA's 1.4¢ per mile baseline, 1,100 miles for an $11 drink works out to about 1.0¢ per mile of implied value. Not strong at all. It’s the same story as the in-app upgrade math - AA prices miles for micro-transactions at levels that favor them, not you. Pay cash if you’re craving some red wine.

First Class Gets a Slight Upgrade

The First Class beverage menu is slight step up from the standard Main Cabin BOB list. On the spirits side, they include Tito's, Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon, The Glenlivet 12 Year Single Malt, Aviation Gin, Socorro Tequila, Bacardi, and both Dewar's and Jack Daniel's.

Beer options include Bud Light, Dos Equis, Heineken, and Goose IPA, with Athletic Brewing's Free Wave Hazy IPA available as a non-alcoholic option. Baileys Irish Cream is also available, and Disaronno Amaretto is available on select flights

What's Free vs What Costs Money by Cabin

First Class: All beverages complimentary, including all alcoholic options.

Main Cabin Extra: All beverages complimentary, including all alcoholic options. This is one of the underrated perks of MCE - you're paying for legroom and get free alcohol as a bonus.

Main Cabin (standard economy): Non-alcoholic drinks are complimentary. Alcoholic drinks are Buy on Board at the pricing outlined above. Payment by contactless credit card, digital wallet, or AAdvantage miles is accepted. No cash.

Executive Platinum and ConciergeKey exception: In Main Cabin, ExPlats and ConciergeKey members get a complimentary alcoholic beverage subject to availability.

    The Signature Cocktail Gap

Here's an observation worth calling out. AA doesn't offer signature cocktails on their typical domestic flights.

That's a departure from where several competitors have gone. Alaska has been developing a Straightaway cocktail partnership. Delta has run seasonal cocktail programs. Even ULCC carriers have added themed drinks in some cases.

AA's approach on domestic is: here's the vodka, here's the tonic, make what you want. It feels like a missed opportunity given AA's broader premium push over the past year with the new California wines and the lounge dining upgrades.

    Transcon and Hawaii Exceptions

Flagship Transcontinental routes (JFK–LAX/SFO/SNA, BOS–LAX, and select MIA–LAX flights) get complimentary alcoholic drinks in all cabins, including Main Cabin.

Flagship Hawaii flights (DFW–HNL, ORD–HNL) also get complimentary alcohol across all cabins after takeoff.

These are the same routes that get proper meal service in all cabins - our domestic meal service guide covers the full breakdown by route type.

These routes include the more swanky options offered by AA.

    Bottom Line

AA's beverage service is standard rather than being remarkable. First Class and Main Cabin Extra get everything included. Main Cabin gets complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and $9-11 for alcoholic ones. ExPlats and ConciergeKey get an alcoholic drink comped in Main Cabin as a status perk.

The absence of signature cocktails is a small knock in a program but who knows - maybe this will change. AA has been investing in premium wine and food. The drink program feels like it's still waiting for its refresh moment.
