American Airlines resumed Miami-Cap-Haitien service with an all-Haitian crew. It's AA's 100th destination in the Caribbean/Latin America region. Big moment.

American Airlines resumed daily nonstop service between Miami and Cap-Haitien, Haiti on November 1, 2026 marking the carrier’s first flights to Haiti in more than six years. The inaugural flight was operated by an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew, marking a thoughtful return. It’s also AA’s 100th destination in its Caribbean and Latin America network.

American Airlines is returning to Haiti after more than six years away, launching daily nonstop service between Miami (MIA) and Cap-Haitien (CAP). The restoration marks AA as the first major U.S. network carrier to resume service to Haiti. Fittingly, the inaugural flight was operated by an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew.

    The Return to Haiti

AA originally began service to Haiti in 1971 and operated there for decades until the suspension of service more than six years ago. The new daily service to Cap-Haitien restores the connection between Haiti and the US for the Haitian diaspora, business travelers, and tourists.

Cap-Haitien is Haiti’s second-largest city, located on the country’s north coast. It’s historically known as a gateway to Haiti’s cultural heritage sites and the Citadelle Laferrière. Having direct nonstop access to Cap-Haitien is a significant quality-of-life improvement over connecting itineraries that have been the only option for the past several years.

    The flight operates:

    • Route: MIA-CAP
    • Frequency: Daily
    • Aircraft: Boeing 737
    • Connectivity: 90+ onward connections via MIA hub

    The All-Haitian Crew

AA operated the inaugural flight with an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew. Captain Oliver Jean led a flight crew of Birline Vernet, Patrick Casimir, Daphnee Ferdinand, Stricker Dilhomme, and Naromie Moussignac.

It was a nice detail to mark the relaunch of this route.

100 Destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Haiti return also marks AA’s 100th destination in its Caribbean and Latin America network.

For added context on AA’s regional dominance:

    • 410+ peak daily flights from Miami
    • 170+ destinations across 46 countries
    • 100 Caribbean and Latin America destinations served
    • Largest-ever winter schedule out of MIA this winter

Delta and United both serve the region, but neither can match AA’s depth or Miami hub concentration.

Why Miami Is So Important for AA

The Miami hub strategy has been central to AA’s international position for decades. For the Caribbean and Latin America specifically:

    • Geographic positioning. Miami is the natural first US gateway from most Caribbean and Latin American markets. Flight times are shorter from Miami than from any other US hub.
    • Cultural proximity. Miami’s large Latin American population creates demand for both business and leisure travel in both directions.
    • Historical commitment. AA has invested in Miami for nearly 40 years, building a network effect that’s genuinely hard for competitors to replicate.
    • Business travel. Many Latin American companies have US headquarters in Miami, which drive strong business travel demand.

    What’s Coming for Miami

AA’s announcement includes several forward-looking details about MIA investments:

    • Reimagined Concourse D. Plans are underway for a major Concourse D rebuild.
    • New Flagship Lounge coming to MIA. A new Flagship Lounge is being built at MIA.
    • Admirals Club expansion at D30. A major expansion of the Admirals Club at Gate D30 is also planned.
    • Winter schedule expansion. Increased service to key routes this winter including San Juan, St. Thomas, Antigua, Tortola, Exuma, St. Kitts, and Rio de Janeiro.
    • Venezuela network expansion. We covered the Venezuela return earlier this year. AA has added Maracaibo service and announced Barcelona, Venezuela starting January 15, 2027.

    My Take

It’s always nice to see a route like this restored. The all-Haitian crew for the inaugural flight is a classy nod to the relaunched service.

This expands the Caribbean options available to AAdvantage members while marking AA’s 100th destination in the region. For anyone with family or business connections to Haiti, this is great news.
