LAX’s Temporary Admirals Club at TBIT: Not Bad for a Stopgap

Why This Lounge Exists
LAX Terminal 4 is in the midst of a major $1.6 billion reconstruction project aimed at completion before the 2028 Olympics. The disruption affects everything from passenger flow to lounge availability which is why AA opened a temporary Admirals Club in the Tom Bradley International Terminal to serve passengers whose flights would normally use the Terminal 4 lounges.
It’s not a permanent addition. Not even a particularly glamorous one. But a necessary accommodation while the main terminal gets rebuilt.

Where to Find It
The temporary Admirals Club is located inside the Tom Bradley International Terminal near Gate 151. If you’re familiar with TBIT’s layout, that puts it in the general departure concourse area rather than requiring any complicated terminal transfer.

Access Methods
Access to the Admirals Club at this temporary location follows the standard AA network access rules:
- Admirals Club membership (paid)
- AA Flagship Business ticket (if operated by AA)
- Qualifying oneworld status (Sapphire or Emerald)
- Citi/AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard cardholders
- Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard cardholders (one visit per year)
- Citi/AAdvantage Globe Mastercard cardholders can use one of their four annual Admirals Club Globe passes
- One-Day Pass for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles
It’s the same access structure as any other Admirals Club in the AA network. For my visit, I accessed via my Flagship Business ticket on the A321T flight back to New York, thanks to a complimentary upgrade I’d received earlier.
The Space
The temporary nature of the lounge is clear from the layout and build quality - this isn’t a luxurious permanent space, just a functional stopgap. While it features high walls, it is essentially open to the terminal. That said, AA did more with the temporary space than they strictly had to.
The tarmac views are the standout feature. For aviation enthusiasts, having a lounge with proper aircraft views is always welcome. The views from the temporary space aren’t on par with the main LAX Flagship Lounge’s floor-to-ceiling windows and elevated placement, but the space shows both ground operations and departing/arriving traffic.

Hollywood and LA-themed artwork throughout the space gives it a sense of place. You know immediately you’re in Los Angeles.

Seating areas are serviceable but limited compared to larger permanent lounges. Expect to find a seat, but not with the same spread of options you’d get at other locations.

No bathroom inside the lounge is probably the most notable limitation. You need to exit the lounge to use the terminal’s restrooms, which is inconvenient for anyone planning to spend significant time there before their flight.
Food and beverage service is standard Admirals Club fare - a basic buffet options, coffee service, bar area. Not as elevated like you’d see at a flagship or Admirals Club in a major hub (like the DFW location).

Context Within the LAX Lounge Network
This temporary space fits into a larger picture at LAX:
- The regular LAX Flagship Lounge (where I’d been earlier that morning) is in Terminal 4 and remains open
- The temporary Admirals Club at TBIT serves passengers using TBIT facilities during the construction period
- Both lounges share the same access criteria as any other Admirals Club in the network
If your departure is from TBIT, this is where you’ll likely end up for a pre-flight lounge stop. If your departure is from Terminal 4 or another AA terminal, the regular LAX Flagship Lounge is the better experience.
My Terminal Trek
I headed to the TBIT temporary Admirals Club because my flight was initially scheduled to depart from TBIT. After I settled into the lounge and started enjoying the space, I checked my flight status to find out the departure had been moved back to Terminal 4.
Cue the trek back across LAX to Terminal 4.
For future reference: if you’re using the temporary TBIT Admirals Club, double-check your departure terminal before you leave the main terminal area. Last-minute gate and terminal changes can turn your lounge visit into a mini marathon.
My Take
I was more impressed than I expected for a temporary lounge. AA could have put together a bare-bones functional space to tide passengers over during construction and called it a day. Instead, they added some character with the LA-themed artwork and gave the space genuine tarmac views.
As noted above, there are a few limitations. If you have Flagship-eligible access and time to make the trek, the regular LAX Flagship Lounge is the better experience. But if you’re flying out of TBIT and don’t want to transfer terminals just for lounge access, the temporary Admirals Club does the job.
Hopefully Terminal 4’s completion brings back a proper permanent Admirals Club at a more convenient location.
