An early morning visit to AA's LAX Flagship Lounge before an A321T return to NYC. Tarmac views, an omelette station, and bananas foster waffles.

An early morning visit to AA’s LAX Flagship Lounge before boarding the A321T back to New York. Thanks to a lucky complimentary upgrade 24 hours out, I got access to one of AA’s better lounges - including some great tarmac views and a preview of Flagship Dining to come.

    The Lucky Upgrade

For context on how I got here: this started as a plain economy ticket on the A321T from LAX back to New York as part of the Dorkfest Bound trip. About 24 hours before departure, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary Flagship Business upgrade - which also unlocked access to the LAX Flagship Lounge before my flight.

It was a great way to cap off the long weekend.

    Getting In

The Flagship Lounge shares its entrance with the Admirals Club at LAX. Once you check in, Flagship-eligible passengers are handed a special invite card that directs you to the lounge upstairs. The elevator takes you up, and you turn left for the Flagship entrance.

LAX terminal construction is in full swing right now and has become a fact of life for anyone transiting LAX in 2026. The lounge itself isn’t affected, but navigating around the terminal to reach it required paying attention and sometimes using underground passageways between terminals.

    First Impressions

A champagne station greets you at the entrance. A classy touch though it was too early in the morning for me to indulge. Still, a nice first impression that sets the tone for the lounge experience.

The space is organized into several areas:

    • Main lounge area with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the TBIT (Tom Bradley International Terminal)
    • TV room for quieter viewing
    • Small working cubbies for passengers who need to focus on work
    • Dining area with the breakfast spread

    The Space

The main area is the standout. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the TBIT, giving you a legitimate view of the tarmac and airfield activity. For aviation enthusiasts (and I count myself among them), this alone makes the lounge worth visiting even if the food and drinks weren’t great.

I was able to grab a seat with an excellent view of the apron right at the window. Watching aircraft movements while waiting for your flight is a genuinely satisfying airport lounge experience, and LAX delivers plenty of interesting traffic to watch.

The lounge was quiet when I arrived at 6 AM but started filling up quickly as the morning progressed. Early arrival paid off for both seat selection and food availability.

    Breakfast

AA has been investing in lounge dining across their network, and you could see the upgrades at play here. The breakfast spread included:

    • Staffed omelette station for custom omelettes made to order
    • Pre-plated breakfast dishes with various options
    • Standard breakfast staples like eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes
    • Pastries and bakery items
    • Cereals for lighter preferences
    • Fresh fruit and yogurt

The highlight of my visit was indulging in a bananas foster mascarpone waffle. Sweet enough to feel like a dessert at breakfast and the kind of dish you wouldn’t find at a typical airport lounge. For anyone with a sweet tooth, this was absolutely worth it.

Beyond the main breakfast spread, coffee service was solid as was the selection of other beverages.

    A Preview of What’s Coming

While exploring the space, I spotted the old Flagship Dining entrance — not yet open, but set to open in the near future per AA’s recent Flagship Dining expansion announcement. That announcement expands Flagship Dining access to all Flagship Business ticketed passengers rather than just Flagship First holders.

For future LAX premium cabin passengers, having a proper sit-down Flagship Dining experience available in this lounge will be a big upgrade. If you have Flagship marketed travel through LAX coming up, keep an eye on the Flagship Dining opening date.

    Final Thoughts

It was a solid visit to the LAX Flagship Lounge. It had been a few years since I had last been here - way back during covid era mileage runs where upgrades were easy, even for a lowly AAdvantage Gold status holder!.

The tarmac views alone make this worth the visit, but adding the elevated food, bananas foster waffles, and the overall atmosphere makes it one of the better Flagship Lounges that AA offers. For anyone with Flagship Business access flying out of LAX, this is absolutely worth building time around. I look forward to coming back once Flagship Dining is open.

It wasn’t long until it was time to trek over to the TBIT to catch the A321T back to New York.
