American Airlines renamed its daily DFW–Nashville flight to AA 925 in tribute to Dolly Parton starting March 28, 2027. A nod to '9 to 5' and country music.

American Airlines is renaming its daily Dallas–Fort Worth to Nashville flight from AA 1396 to AA 925 in honor of Dolly Parton. It's a nod to her only Billboard Hot 100 number one hit, "9 to 5." The change takes effect March 28, 2027 and is a meaningful tribute after her passing on August 25.

    The Context

Dolly Parton passed away on August 25, 2026, at age 80, in Nashville. The city was her adopted home and the primary base for her six-decade career. Tributes came from across the music industry, political figures, and more. American's flight number change is one of the latest ways to honor her legacy.

"9 to 5" or Flight 925: Why This Number

"9 to 5" was the title song of Parton's 1980 film with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman, a comedy about working women that also delivered a chart-topping anthem for anyone grinding through the standard workweek. The song hit number one on the Hot 100 in 1981. Despite decades of country music dominance and dozens of hit singles, it remained Parton's only crossover to the pop chart's peak position.

This specific song took her into mainstream pop culture and remains a defining piece of American music history.

    When It Takes Effect

The flight number change kicks in March 28, 2027, so about six months out.

On a related note, Allegiant operated their own "Flight 925: Destination Dollywood" earlier this year, however that flight was a one-off promotional charter from Orlando/Sanford to Knoxville tied to Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas festival.

    The Broader Point

Airlines don't often make quiet tributes like this. Special liveries get press releases and dedicated content. Named aircraft get ceremonies. Flight number changes just happen quietly as new schedules are loaded.

It's nice to see American Airlines recognize this iconic American musician with Flight 925 from DFW to BNA. You can catch this special flight starting March 28.
