Hyatt and American Airlines announced the end of their reciprocal loyalty partnership, and Hyatt announced a new partnership with Delta. Here's what's actually changing, when, and what it means for AAdvantage members with Hyatt stays.

On September 9, 2026, American Airlines and Hyatt announced they were ending their reciprocal loyalty partnership that launched back in 2019. A few hours later, Hyatt announced a new partnership with Delta.

The move isn't a total shock - the AA-Hyatt partnership had been somewhat winding down for a while, with dual earning on stays ending back in 2024. But the formal announcement plus the immediate Delta pivot made it official.

What's Ending With American Airlines

The reciprocal AAdvantage and World of Hyatt partnership will officially end on November 15, 2026. But there's a transition period for anyone with linked accounts:

• November 15, 2026 at 11:59:59 PM CT: Deadline to have your AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts linked to preserve any transitional benefits
• December 31, 2026: Last day for World of Hyatt members to select AAdvantage awards through World of Hyatt Milestone Rewards
• February 28, 2027: Last day for AAdvantage members to select World of Hyatt awards through AAdvantage Loyalty Point Rewards

If your accounts are linked by November 15, you preserve access to these transitional reward selections during the wind-down period. If they're not linked, you lose access when the partnership formally ends.

What's NOT Ending With American Airlines

Even after the formal partnership ends, AAdvantage members can continue earning 500 AAdvantage miles instead of World of Hyatt points on eligible Hyatt stays by providing your AAdvantage number at check-in.

This means the basic ability to credit Hyatt stays to AAdvantage isn't going away entirely. It's just being reduced to a straight 500 mile credit per stay rather.

What's Starting With Delta

Hyatt announced the new Delta partnership hours after the AA announcement. Details are still limited but the framework includes:

• Eligible World of Hyatt elite members will earn World of Hyatt points on qualifying Delta airfare purchases
• Delta will now become Hyatt's primary enhanced airline relationship in the US once the American partnership winds down
• Dual earning - which Hyatt calls "one of the most requested loyalty benefits" - will be a feature
• Basic economy fares will likely be excluded (following the pattern of most airline-hotel earning arrangements)

Why This Actually Matters

The AA-Hyatt partnership has treated me well these past few years and I'm sad to see it go come early next year. If you were counting on these reciprocal rewards as part of your regular status and points planning, changes are coming.

It is another sign of loyalty programs consolidating and reshuffling. Hyatt's redemption chart got worse earlier this year. The Chase Sapphire Preferred transfer ratio to Hyatt got worse. Now the AAdvantage partnership is ending. Hyatt's still one of the best hotel programs, but the ecosystem around it is getting harder to work with.

What To Do Right Now

If you're an AAdvantage member with Hyatt stays: Link your accounts before November 15 if you haven't already. It's free and preserves transitional benefits through February 28, 2027.

If you have earned AAdvantage Loyalty Point Rewards you were considering trading for Hyatt benefits: Do it before February 28, 2027 - after that, the option will be gone.
