Wyndham Rewards is releasing 100 limited-edition Route 66 candy collections at $19.26 apiece on August 20. The catch? Each box includes 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points - enough for up to two free award nights. Genuinely fun marketing, and I'll be trying for a chance to win.

Every once in a while a loyalty program does something that's more fun than functional and it's worth calling out. For example, in 2024 SAS ran their Eurobonus competition rewarding members with 1 million points for flying on 15 SkyTeam partner airlines. Now Wyndham Rewards is dropping a limited-edition candy box on August 20 called Flavors of the Open Road containing six Route 66-inspired candies celebrating the highway's 100th anniversary. The reason it's worth writing about is what's in the box (other than candy!)

What's in the Wyndham Rewards Route 66 Candy Box

    Each box includes:

    • Six candy flavors inspired by iconic Route 66 stops: Chicago deep-dish pizza, Tulsa pecan pie, Amarillo smoked brisket, Albuquerque roasted green chile, Flagstaff prickly pear soft serve, and Kingman root beer float
    • 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points
    • A Route 66 travel guide covering the destinations behind each flavor

The 30,000 points is the headline. Wyndham Rewards award nights start at 7,500 points, meaning that 30,000 points is enough for up to four free nights at the lowest tier or two nights at 15,000-point properties. For $19.26, you're getting a candy box plus a genuinely useful chunk of hotel points. The candy is essentially free.

If you like running the math on what hotel points are actually worth before you commit, our guide to booking Hyatt Cash + Points walks through the same kind of thinking on the Hyatt side.

    Why This Is Fun

Loyalty programs don't usually do things like this. Most promotions lean toward safe corporate marketing. Wyndham has been more willing to play with the format. There's a specific brand personality here that's willing to make weird things for the sake of making them. Smoked brisket candy is not something I would order under normal circumstances. But with a chance to score some miles? Sure.

    The Reality Check

I'm not expecting to actually win one of these. One hundred boxes across the entire United States means this is going to be a genuine race - likely selling out in seconds.

Still though, I'll be setting a timer. Worst case, I miss out and get to laugh about smoked brisket candy for the rest of the week. Best case, 30,000 Wyndham points show up in my account for less than $20 (and I get to actually try candies that shouldn't exist.)

The promotion goes live at wyndhamhotels.com/wyndham-rewards/roadtrip at 10 a.m. ET on August 20.
