    The Referral Promotion Details

    Here's how it works:

    • Click the referral link to sign up as a new AAdvantage eShopping member
    • Make a qualifying $75+ purchase at any of the 1,200+ participating retailers through the portal by October 30, 2026
    • You get 1,000 bonus miles on top of your normal portal earnings

Bonuses post within 10 weeks after the promotion period ends.

After signing up you can also share your own referral link and earn a maximum of 5,000 bonus miles (10 successful referrals × 500 miles each).

Why AAdvantage Shopping Is Worth Using

Even without the referral bonus, AAdvantage Shopping is one of the easier ways to earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points. The basic process is:

    • Click through the AAdvantage Shopping portal before making a purchase at a participating retailer
    • Shop normally on the retailer's website or app
    • Earn miles per dollar based on that retailer's current bonus rate

Most retailers offer 2-10 miles per dollar through the portal, with promotions occasionally pushing rates higher. Our AARP subscription hack post covered one specific high-value scenario, but the broader program is useful for virtually any online shopping you'd be doing anyway.

    Here's what makes it valuable:

    • Earn miles on everyday purchases. Shopping you were going to do anyway now also earns miles.
    • Earn Loyalty Points toward status. Unlike many bonus miles promotions, AAdvantage Shopping miles count as Loyalty Points. For members chasing status, this is a legitimate path to higher tiers that doesn't require flying.
    • There are 1,200+ participating retailers. Target, Nike, Best Buy, Home Depot, Macy's, and most other major online stores participate. If you shop online at all, chances are good at least some of your spending qualifies. Some of the biggest bonuses include subscriptions or trials for things like meal delivery services.
    • Stackable with credit card rewards. You earn AAdvantage miles through the portal AND your normal credit card rewards from the same purchase.

    The $75 Qualifying Purchase

For the referral to count, you need to make at least a $75 purchase through the portal.

Qualifying purchases exclude gift card purchases from most retailers, so if you were planning to game this by buying $75 of gift cards, that doesn't work.

    Who Should Use This

    • Current AAdvantage members not yet using the shopping portal: Even without the referral bonus, you're leaving miles on the table every time you shop online. The portal is free, there's no catch, and the earning rate is often solid. Use my link if you want the bonus - otherwise just join directly.
    • New AAdvantage members: If you're not yet in the AAdvantage program but have been thinking about it, this is a good time. The AAdvantage program itself is free to join. The 1,000 bonus miles plus whatever you earn from your qualifying purchase makes it worth the few minutes it takes to sign up. AAdvantage rewards often start as low as 4-5k miles for a one way domestic flight.
    • Members chasing Loyalty Points toward status: Portal shopping is one of the easier paths to add Loyalty Points to your account. If you're trying to hit a status threshold before the end of this status year's qualifying period, this gets you closer.
    • Members with upcoming shopping needs: If you have holiday shopping, home purchases, or other spending coming up, routing it through the portal is a great way to earn miles.

    The Bigger Context

AAdvantage Shopping gets overshadowed by flashier promotions and credit card sign-up bonuses.

For someone who shops $500 monthly online at a reasonable 3 miles per dollar average rate, that's 18,000 miles per year on spending they were going to do anyway. That's enough miles for a one-way domestic first class ticket or significant progress on an international business class redemption.

    Final Thoughts

If you were already planning to use AAdvantage Shopping, use my link and we'll both get bonus miles. If you weren't but now you're curious, it's a great way to earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points.

The referral promotion runs through October 30, so if you're going to do it, now's the time.
